Harry Baals, Fort Wayne Mayor Tom Henry needs a name for the building of new city-county government. So he asked the community for suggestions. “We want to do something that the community can be proud of,” said city Public Information Officer Frank Suarez. A few weeks ago, city officials created a website called “evaluation Fort Wayne.” Today, more than 150 name suggestions were placed, but one name stands out: “Harry Baals Government Center.”
“Baals mayor is well known to the people of Fort Wayne,” said Suarez.
“Harry Baals Government Center” is the favorite, with over 1500 votes. Baal was a Republican mayor of Fort Wayne back in the 30, 40 and 50. He was the oldest mayor in the city and died during his tenure.
Some say he was a true patriot, but others say his name is a joke.
We asked viewers to FOX Fort Wayne weigh more and slammed the name.
Ron wrote: “There is already a street in the city named after the guy, which is pretty embarrassing.”
While Jeremy said: “I thought it was a joke at first! Who knew there was actually someone with that name? ”
But critics will not have to worry much. City officials say the “Harry Baals Government Center” is a long shot.
“This government center will be something that the name of it will be heard across the country and can not say the same thing for some in the country,” said Suarez.
Suarez said former mayors have already pointed out in the community.
“They have all been recognized for, or they have a street or a player named after them or they have a park named after them.”
A former mayor Indiana who won four terms in the 1930 and 1950 is proving less popular with the leaders of the modern city, which probably will not say the name of a new government center for him because of his nickname jokes might inspire.
Harry Baals is the runaway favorite in online voting for the name of the new building in Fort Wayne, about 120 miles north of Indianapolis. But Deputy Mayor Beth Malloy said that probably will not be enough to put the name of the mayor’s most senior of the city center on the …
“We realize that even if Harry Baals was a respected mayor, not everyone outside of Fort Wayne knows that,” Malloy said Tuesday in a statement to The Associated Press. “We wanted to choose something that reflects our pride in our community beyond the boundaries of Fort Wayne.”
Admittedly, not everyone will appreciate this and Harry Baals Baals Harry was capable of. Not only as a politician – who do not retreat, even if pressed hard by the opposition – but also as a father – who enjoyed a pleasant nuzzling. In some respects, one could say that there were two Baals Harry. Obviously, the people of Fort Wayne love both of their beloved Harry Baals. The name is everywhere there, where the cries of “Harry Baals” are constantly rolling on the tongue, and people slip into people’s ears. But you cannot expect everyone to feel that way. Baalim Harry is an acquired taste.
