November 10, 2011 by staff

Happy Birthday Marine Corps, The founders of the United States of America made many decisions during the American Revolution. The Declaration of Independence being known by most people. Now, the founding of the Marine Corps is not known by most people. So, unsurprisingly, most people don’t know that today is the Marine Corps birthday. Happy Birthday, Marines!

It was during the American Revolution that a committee of the Continental Congress met at Tun Tavern in Philadelphia, to write a resolution calling for two battalions of Marines able to fight for independence at sea and on shore. Approved on November 10, 1775, this resolution officially formed the Continental Marines.

Each year on November 10th, the Marine Corps celebrates these men and thousands of men and women since then that defend these United States of America, such as: Commandant Samuel Nicholas, Colonel Archibald Henderson, Captain John Philip Sousa, Sergeant John Quick, Sergeant Major Dan Daly, Major General Smedley Butler, Opha Mae Johnson, the 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, the men from Montford Point, the Najavo Code Talkers, the Marine Corps Women’s Reserve, Private First Class Jack Lucas, Staff Sergeant Norman T. Hatch, 1st Lieutenant Baldomero Lopez, Lieutenant General Lewis B. “Chesty” Fuller, Private First Class James Anderson, Jr., Colonel John L Ripley, Colonel Matthew Bogdanos, and Corporal Jason Dunham.
