Gypsy Rose Lee, (UKPA) – Barbra Streisand is in negotiations to play Mama Rose in the remake of Gypsy. The Grammy award-winning singer has already met the musical’s creator Arthur Laurents and lyricist Stephen Sondheim to talk about pushy stage mom portray.

Arthur told the New York Times that Barbra had been interested in Gypsy for many years but now things are serious and really is a movie in the works – playing Rose is enough to make her happy. ”

Asked if the star 68-year-old was too old to play Rose, a young mother in the first act of the musical, he added: “Firstly, they can make magic in Hollywood Second, does it really matter. ”

Dick Guttman, Barbra spokesman, confirmed: “There have been conversations.”

It would be the first role for Barbra – who won an Oscar for best actress in 1968 for the musical Funny Girl – since 1996, The Mirror Has Two Faces, although she appeared in the franchise Meet The Parents.

Tom Hanks was nominated for the role of Herbie, Rose’s love story and the talent manager of his two daughters. “Barbra liked the idea,” Arthur revealed.

Originally a Broadway musical based on the brief burlesque star Gypsy Rose Lee, Gypsy has been transformed into a film in 1962 with Rosalind Russell Rose. It has also been adapted for a TV movie in 1993, with Bette Midler won a Golden Globe for her performance gong.
