Greatest American Hero

Greatest American Hero:This article is not Jackass.

One of my favorite shows of the 80s was ABC’s “The Greatest American Hero.” It starred William Katt as Ralph Hinkley, a school teacher from the center of the city and Robert Culp as old-fashioned lawman Bill Maxwell FBI. The two men met in the desert one night when a UFO came and made a dress that gave the wearer the powers of a superhero, but the only thing that worked was Ralph.

I was thinking about this show today because of an announcement that the channel will air a marathon SyFy series tomorrow. One thing that I think can be translated to modern times is the team of Bill and Ralph. The intelligent aliens were able to realize that a power like that could not go to one man or one ideology. The teacher had the power to liberal and conservative FBI agent was able to give to missions and keep their identity secret.

Fewer people than ever are willing to accept that there are different ways of seeing the world and that those opinions may be valid. If someone really had the answers, they would have made a perfect location. Debate can be rude and pointless, but may also be reflective and meaningful. I tired of people who say there is only one right way and everybody is stupid not to agree. That’s why I can not bear the responsibility now.
