Grandmas Marathon 2011, Grandma’s Marathon has announced the recipients of its 2011 Ron Daws Ambassador Award and Excellence Award. Gloria Jansen is this year’s Ambassador Award winner Ron Daws. Jansen has duration of execution in his resume and is the highest representative of long-distance running. It’s Grandma’s Marathon 50-54 age group record (3:03:57, 1998) and Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon 55-59 record (1:35:27, 2005), which is in its first time in the race.
Also a long time volunteer and coach, Jansen has served as board member of Twin Cities Marathon, Team USA Minnesota Center for Distance Learning Minnesota Distance Running Association and (mdraid).
In 1993, Grandma’s Marathon began Ron Daws Ambassador Award in honor of Minnesota native and Olympic 1968, which was a great ambassador for Grandma’s Marathon and the city of Duluth. Daws were instrumental in the development of road racing in Minnesota until his death in 1992. The award is given annually to an individual who has been a leader in the growth of long distance running and has a shared commitment to Marathon Grandma and Duluth.
David Bridges is the recipient of the 2011 Award of Excellence.
When racers and race fans enjoy the sights and sounds of the Marathon Grandma’s finish line, David Bridges have to thank for the “sounds” portions.
Bridges is responsible for the sound system of Canal Park Drive coating finish area. Control music and speaker microphones that play a role in the party atmosphere to welcome the runners at the end of the race.
