More than 50 years, his mother and father, U.S. actress Grace Kelly and Prince Rainier III of Monaco, was married in a civil ceremony simple, with a more complex issue in the Cathedral of St. Nicholas, the following day.

Unfortunately, none of the prince’s parents will be there as the world’s most eligible bachelor has a wife. Kelly died in a tragic car accident in 1982, while Prince Rainier succumbed to ill health in 2005.

In honor of the wedding of Prince Albert, here’s a report from Bob Considine worked in the Washington Post on April 18, 1956 after the civil ceremony the couple:

Pale and with a slight smile movie star Grace Kelly married an impatient nervousness Prince Rainier III today in gold damask throne room of the palace of Monaco.
“I feel numb,” the new princess with astonishment after the civil ceremony 20 minutes.
The prince, who bit his lip, looked only at the ceremony in the 26-year-old, who is now her Serene Highness.
She, however, often turned in her chair by the prince 32 years of age, and seeking solace from it.
Kissless was a marriage, the prelude to a religious ceremony on Thursday at the Cathedral of St. Charles.
In the morning frock Prince took his wife – a vision in pink lace and a beige hat with organdy cut through her honey-colored hair – and led her out of the throne room without touching it.
The sadness of most of the time the ceremony had to be explained later, the fall just before the wedding of Count Fernando D’Aillières Caillard, Chamberlain of the Prince, an attack of nerves.
An employee of the palace, a trolley ran to the account in a small suite where the priest Rev. Francis Tucker prince, was conferring with Papal Nuncio and Bishop Marella Gilles Barthe, who will conduct the religious ceremony tomorrow.
However, austerity, and nervousness former boyfriend of a man who until today was called “Europe’s most eligible bachelor,” melted quickly once it was the grace and the small wedding party – including this reporter – to his attractive Palace apartment for champagne.
The beautiful Grace, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John B. Kelly smiled radiantly as she took champagne and invited us for a drink, while the prince wandered among relatives.
