Google Buzz Facebook,What is Google Buzz | York: Google Buzz Facebook war: Is Orkut dead. Many people are wondering as to whether Google’s social networking site Orkut is dead, or Google is going to shut it down for its newly launched feature of Buzz.

Orkut has failed to keep up the pace with other social networking sites including Facebook and Twitter.

Orkut’s popularity has been decreasing with every passing day. At a time when Facebook and Twitter are ranked second and twelfth respectively by, Orkut’s rank has come down to 60.

Almost thirty percent internet population uses Facebook now.

In the beginning of the last year, the two websites were in a neck and neck competition and now there is no comparison left between the two social networking sites.

Although Orkut is less popular in the United States than competitors Facebook  and MySpace, it is one of the most visited websites in India and Brazil. In fact, as of December 2009, 51.09% of Orkut’s users are from Brazil, followed by India with 20.02% and United States with 17.28%.

The fact that it is not popular in US and Europe- more lucrative market for any internet company- might have prompted Google to get a better social networking site than Orkut,  that at best seems obsolete.

But will users who have become used to Facebook and Twitter will fall for it, is the most important question.
