Golfers’ $30-million Lottery Jackpot, Golfers Lotto Jackpot, A fortunate foursome of golfing buddies from the Fraser Valley laid claim to the $30-million Lotto Max jackpot on Tuesday.
Ian McMurtrie, Tom Moryson, Wayne Miller and Joe Scully, who have been playing golf together for five years, are planning a trip to California golfing mecca Pebble Beach to start enjoying $7.5 million each.
“Friday being a holiday, I almost forgot to buy [the weekly ticket],” McMurtrie said as he held a big cheque for $30 million at B.C. Lottery Corp. headquarters in Vancouver.
“I almost forgot. I was watching the Masters on Friday and they said it was the second round.
“I said, ‘Second round? It feels like Saturday, I better go get the lottery ticket.’”
When he got to Otter Co-op in Abbotsford, he found out he had won $20, so he asked the clerk to roll it into $20 worth of tickets.
“Somebody was looking out for us,” he said.
At 46, McMurtrie is the youngest of the group and had the duty of buying the weekly tickets for the four of them.
“I’m going to retire and play golf,” he said.
“Getting my pro ticket is something I always wanted to do.”
