Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, THE Pasay City regional trial court allowed former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to visit the wake of her brother-in-law, Negros Occidental Rep. Ignacio Arroyo, in Quezon City today.

But upon receiving the order of RTC Branch 112 Judge Jesus Mupas, Arroyo’s lawyers immediately moved for the rescheduling of the visit to March 1 because the arrival of her brother-in-law’s remains from the United Kingdom was delayed.

“[Defense lawyers] filed this morning a manifestation requesting that the wake visit be reset from March 1 to 3 since according to them, Mr. Iggy’s remains will not arrive in Manila as scheduled,” Felda Domingo, the court’s spokesperson, said.

Mupas granted Arroyo’s petition to leave the Veterans Memorial Medical Center today, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., supposedly to visit the wake of her brother-in-law at the Arroyo family’s mansion in La Vista, Quezon City.

According to Domingo, the court required that the accused remain under heavy security and that the former president will not be allowed to go anywhere but their La Vista residence.

Based on the original schedule, Ignacio Arroyo’s body was supposed to arrive from London tonight via Emirates Airlines flight from Dubai but was reportedly delayed. His remains are now expected to arrive in Manila tonight.
