Girl Stares Down Lion

Girl Stares Down Lion, You call yourself the King of the Jungle? And you can’t even scare a three-year-old girl? For shame! Back of the pack, pal. This round of “Girl vs. Lion” clearly goes to little Sofia Walker, who twice went paw-to-face (with the aid, thankfully, of a very thick pane of glass) with the hungry cat at a New Zealand zoo last week.
She stared down the pouncing, swatting seven-year-old male until her mom finally decided “that’s enough” and told Sofia it was time to go. It was lunch time after all. And there’s only so much a famished lion will tolerate when its meal is interrupted by a little kid.
After Malik stands and violently paws at the glass where Sofia is standing, she turns to ask her parents, “What’s he telling me?” Oh, we can think of plenty of answers, Sofia. Her mother, though, is heard kindly responding, “I think he’s telling you to move away from here. He wants to eat his food.”
The Wellington Zoo’s team leader of primates and carnivores was impressed by the brave girl, telling the New Zealand Herald, “[Sofia] came across as a bit of a rock star, didn’t she? She’s just got a bit of spunk and doesn’t really seem to mind too much. There were a couple of moments where she was a little bit surprised, which is fair enough completely, but she didn’t seem too bothered.”
