Georgina Sims Given Asbo

Georgina Sims Given Asbo, An 87-year-old grandmother has been given an interim ASBO after being prosecuted for playing Glenn Miller and Frank Sinatra hits on her radio too loudly – even though she is almost deaf. Neighbours complained they endured 13 months of hell as widow Georgina Sims banged her walking stick on the wall as she listened to loud music.
The pensioner, from Gosport, Hampshire, was initially given a noise abatement notice by Gosport Borough Council in August 2010 but was given an interim Asbo in October last year after she failed to comply with the order.
She was also given a six-month conditional discharge and told to pay £500 costs after admitting two charges of flouting the noise abatement order at Fareham Magistrates’ Court.
Daughter Bev Batten, 58, said Gosport Borough Council were wrong to prosecute her elderly mum.
She said Georgina banged on the wall as hearing condition tinnitus caused her to hear sounds that were not there, and meant she had to turn her radio up to drown them out.
Bev said: ‘It was obvious she needed help and she didn’t get it.
‘She didn’t need an ASBO. Mum didn’t make it easy but taking her to court was not the best thing to do.
‘She was genuinely hearing noises – she didn’t have a vendetta against the neighbours.’
