George Clooney Arrested In Protest, Actor George Clooney has been arrested in Washington while taking part in a protest in front of the Sudanese embassy.

According to reports, Clooney, his father, and several other activists protested in front of the embassy Friday morning, to decry the country’s blockade of humanitarian aide.

The protesters accuse Sudan’s president, Omar al-Bashir, of provoking a humanitarian crisis, and blocking food aid from entering a key border region with South Sudan.

Police issued the protesters three verbal warnings to move off the private property. When those warnings were ignored, Clooney and several other activists were taken away in handcuffs and placed in a Secret Service van.

Clooney was joined by several activist colleagues including Rep. Jim Moran, NAACP President Ben Jealous, Enough Project’s John Prendergast and Martin Luther King III.

The planned civil disobedience was designed to attract media attention. Clooney has long championed the Sudan cause and had said earlier that he hoped to draw more attention to the humanitarian issues there.
