Funny Christmas Songs

December 11, 2011 by staff

Funny Christmas Songs, The performances in this countdown of funny Christmas songs are designed to make listeners laugh. Hopefully, loudly enough to drown out 73 versions of “Jingle Bell Rock” that are playing in every store, everywhere we go.

Lots of Christmas songs are funny, but only one is scary.

“Zat You, Santa Claus?” is a holiday horror story by New Orleans jazz legend Louis Armstrong. (He’s most famous for “What A Wonderful World.”)

The first time I heard it was by Buster Poindexter on “Saturday Night Live,” but the very fun song has been done by lots of people, including Brian Setzer and Garth Brooks.

Louis Armstrong amps up the fear factor, asking “Four winds are howling. Or is that growling?” As the song progresses, Armstrong pretty much freaks out.

I would deduct points because of the happy ending. But this is a Christmas song, not Edgar Allen Poe.
