Fried Bubble Gum, You’ve heard of fried cookies, fried candy bars … even the fried butter. Now what? At the State Fair of Texas later this month, the gum will make its debut fried. But right now, is a competition for the best tasting and most creative fried foods.
Last year, beer was fried at the State Fair of Texas. Last year it was fried in butter. But this year, Justin Martinez is pink … Pink gum.
“It almost has that effect on the fly almost looks like someone is blowing a bubble,” said Justin Martinez, the creator of gum fried.
Justin says the idea came from one of its employees. This year is the hope of building wins top honors in the “Tex Choice Awards Grand.” The winner is dubbed as having the best tasting and most creative fried foods at the fair.
This is how the creation of Justin is. He takes marshmallows and infuses them with chewing gum extract. That’s where it gets the flavor of gum. After that, the marshmallow falls into one mass of pink and then to the fryer. “We give a bit of blue ice at the top and then Chicklets to give it some color, gives a nice attractive,” he said.
But Justin has stiff competition at the fair this year. How would you like a taste of fried sauce?
Isaac Rousso is the man behind such treatment. He thinks he is good enough to win. “Just think if they would have some nice hot sauce with cheese in the center and a crispy crust on the outside, and you get to dip it in a sauce that is what you get,” said Isaac.
But in the end, everything will be the judges. They will choose fried foods taste better and more creative from this week. The State Fair of Texas runs from September 30 to October 23.
