Fresno City College, Just one game after being held without a goal, the College of Sequoias sophomore guard Lance Reeves lit up the scoreboard.
Reeves has rebounded from a rare night without a goal to pay 23 points as the Giants defeated Columbia 65-58 in a Central Valley Conference game Saturday night to Dr. S. Thomas Porter Field House.

The win tied the Giants at 1-1 in the conference and improved to 13-6 overall after suffering a shocking 56-54 loss against Merced College on Wednesday.

Reeves did most of his damage from beyond the arc, nailing from September to March-points.

“He had a nice rebound game,” COS coach Rusty Smith said. “He never turned evil back-to-back so early we went to him. We have some plays where we’re going to Lance and he responded. They overturned. He shot terriffic. ”

Reeves hot shooting night was the key for the Giants, who played without big men Ross Rivera and Beau Smith.

Rivera injured his ankle on Wednesday and is day to day, and Smith is out with a knee injury and there is no timetable for his return yet.

“Our problem now is that we have two guys we’re trying to fill the 4-spot for Rivera and Smith, Coach Smith said. “It is not easy, especially at the conference when people know what you do. We’re struggling a bit, but we are happy to escape with victory.”

Rob Walters and Rodny Mendes joined Reeves double-digits in points 17 and 11, respectively.

The Giants will look to stay on track when they play at Reedley College at 19 am Wednesday. They go home to play Fresno City at 7 pm on Saturday.
