Ferris Wheel Death, Trip to New Jersey girl to a fun park ended in horror as the 11-year-old fell to her death on Friday while riding a Ferris wheel. Abijah Jones went on the trip by herself when she dropped 100 feet to her death, authorities said. A witness said Jones leaned over the railing and collapsed, resulting in her fatal fall.
The girl was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead. The giant wheel travel in the Mariner’s Landing in Wildwood was built in 1985 and is 156 meters high. It is one of the largest Ferris wheels in the east coast.
The ride passed inspection in March and the authorities have not indicated that any mechanical failure was to blame for the death of Jones. “We do not know if it was an accident, or maybe she was looking around, I do not know,” said Wildwood Police Capt. Robert Regalbuto NBC News. The park remains open but the ride has been closed. Between 4,000 and 5,000 students at Mariner’s Landing Thursday and Friday as part of the annual Education Extravaganza.
