Ferndale Earthquake,FERNDALE, Calif (AP) — A 6.5 magnitude earthquake has struck off the coast of Northern California. There are reports of power outages in some coastal communities, but there’s no word of any injuries or major damage.

UNDATED (AP) — Florida is getting hit by another frigid blast. Today, snow flurries and sleet were spotted in several parts of the state. Meanwhile, an ice jam along the Mississippi River is leading to flood warnings for southwest Illinois and northeast Missouri. Authorities say the river is near the 16-foot flood stage in Hannibal.

UNDATED (AP) — A top CIA official is calling a victim of last month’s suicide bombing in Afghanistan a hero. The official says Dane Paresi saved lives during the Dec. 30 attack that killed seven CIA employees. A service was held for Paresi today in Washington state.

LONDON (AP) — Two British men have been charged with making a false bomb threat and being drunk aboard a Dubai-bound passenger jet yesterday. Armed police officers pulled the two from the plane after crew members reported being threatened. A search of the plane turned up nothing suspicious.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Relatives of a man suspected in a St. Louis shooting rampage say the caring man they knew could “never could have done this.” Police say the 51-year-old killed four people Thursday, before killing himself. Police also have not found a motive.
