Facebook To Build Near Arctic Circle, Facebook said Thursday it will immediately begin building a massive data center – his third globally and first in Europe – in the Swedish city of Luleaa, near the Arctic Circle.
“After a rigorous review process of sites across Europe, we conclude that Luleaa offers the best package of resources, including a suitable climate for cooling the environment [and] clean energy resources,” said the largest site of social media, with over 800 million users worldwide.

“Thanks to our main river, the river Lule, we can guarantee this,” said Mayor Karl Petersen Luleaa in the statement, noting that the river provides Sweden with 9% of its electricity.
The Luleaa data center consists of three buildings each server with an area of ??about 28 000m2, Facebook, he said, adding that construction would begin immediately.
The first building will be open for business within a year, he said, while the data center is expected to be operational in 2014.
“About 300 full-time positions required during the first three years,” said Facebook, without disclosing the amount of construction is expected to cost.
