Eva Ekvall Husband Photo, Eva Ekvall, the former Miss Venezuela who finished third in the Miss Universe pageant in 2001, has died of breast cancer aged 28. Her family has confirmed the model passed away at a hospital in Houston on Saturday (December 17, 2011), according to the Huffington Post.
Eva rose to prominence in 2000 after she was crowned Miss Venezuela at 17-years-old – one year later she narrowly missed out on the Miss Universe title in Puerto Rico. She went on to have a successful few years as an actress and television news anchor, while also co-authoring the book ‘Fuera de Foco’ (Out of Focus) about her struggle with cancer.
Last year, she told newspaper El Nacional of her need to send out a message about cancer prevention and appeared on the cover of the book with her head shaved. It also contained images of her time in chemotherapy, shot by the photographer Roberto Mata, and the model explained, “I hate to see photos in which I come out ugly. But you know what? Nobody ever said cancer is pretty or that I should look like Miss Venezuela when I have cancer”.
Her family said in a statement that her remains were cremated in Houston on Monday but that a service will be held in her native Venezuela once the remains are returned to the country. Ekvall was married to the radio producer John Fabio Bermudez and the couple had a 2-year-old daughter.
