Esther G. Edwards Gust, The mother of a 3-year-old Alaska girl who died after authorities say she and her sister were locked in a bedroom with a window open to minus-30-degree temperatures is apparently on the lam.
Esther G. Edwards-Gust and her live-in boyfriend, Richard Tilden Jr., were indicted Friday on charges including manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide in the death of Edwards-Gust’s 3-year-old daughter.
The family lives in Barrow, the nation’s northernmost community.
Police say the girl and her 1-year-old sister were trapped overnight in a bedroom with a window open to temperatures that reached 30 degrees below zero last month.
Both children were diagnosed with extreme hypothermia and flown to an Anchorage hospital, where the 3-year-old died.
