Emergency School Closings

Emergency School Closings, Blizzard headed for northern Illinois and northwestern Indiana, and closing schools emergency occur throughout the region. Some schools are open today, but more likely will close early to give families time to go home before the worst of it begins.

Unnecessary travel should be avoided at all costs this afternoon through Wednesday morning … wonder if getting to your destination should be life threatening.

The weather service says:

It is not uncommon to see snowfalls of over four inches per hour in thundersnow, making travel almost impossible.

Holy Man blizzard of snow! I have not heard of lightning while thundersnow, but that would be pretty spectacular.

The Chief Executive will decide whether or not schools will close depending on weather conditions and forecasts for the approaching storm. All decisions will be communicated to parents and students by way of automated telephone calls, the news media and Centre 311.
