Emcore:(The Huffington Post) — ALBUQUERQUE, NM – A gunman opened fire in an optical fiber manufacturer Albuquerque Monday, killing three people and wounding eight people before shooting himself in what police said was a domestic violence dispute.
This morning, Police Chief Ray Schultz said there were six dead.
He explained at a press conference after the officers who responded had seen people down and thought they were dead, and then went into the building to search for the gunman. The officers who arrived later identified a number of shooting victims survived.
Schultz also said there was confusion at the University of New Mexico Hospital, where a victim died, but two deaths were reported.
The shooting at Emcore Corp. seemed to involve the gunman’s wife of 37 years of age, or girlfriend, said Schultz.

ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico (AP) – A gunman opened fire in an optical fiber manufacturer in Albuquerque on Monday, killing five people and wounding four others before shooting himself in what police said was a dispute of violence domestic.
The shooting at Emcore Corp. seemed to imply that the gunman is 37 years old ex-wife or girlfriend, Police Chief Ray Schultz said. It was not immediately clear whether she was among the dead, or caliber gun he used.
“In a situation like this, there are other people in the building and became, unfortunately, the victims too,” he said.
Schultz said the attacker was a former employee, but did not release his name.
The chaos was developed as the gunman opened fire, sending employees fleeing the deck, while police blocked the neighborhood. Police were alerted to the shooting, shortly before 9:30 am Five officers were inside the building in three minutes, said Schultz.
Three bodies were discovered first and fourth, believed to be the shooter, was also found inside the building.
Police blocked the southeast of the city as a precaution, but Schultz said the authorities do not believe there was a second shooter. Emcore The complex was surrounded by police cars, many arrive with sirens blaring, while helicopters hovered overhead.
Schultz said the gunman had children living outside of Albuquerque and said they were detained for “other agency.”
The chief said he had at least one prior domestic violence with the participation of the gunman, but said it occurred outside of Albuquerque. He did not say where.
Police said 85 employees were taken later to a community center for interviews with detectives.
Six victims were taken to the University of New Mexico Hospital, said spokesman Billy Sparks. One was dead on arrival, one died in the operating room and one was still in surgery, but expected to be transferred to intensive care before.
One of the other three were in hospital imaging department and two others were in stable condition at the emergency room.
Emcore makes components that allow voice, video and data transmission lines by optical fiber. They also make solar energy systems for satellite and ground-based systems.
Headquartered in Albuquerque, the company has about 700 full-time employees.
