Elizabeth Smart Now

Elizabeth Smart NowElizabeth Smart Now, When Elizabeth Smart Case spoke in this week of a man who was abducted from her bedroom nine years ago, her words can be directed to the judge, but she hopes her message will reach others who have gone through terrible experiences like yours.

In the sentence Brian David Mitchell, scheduled for Wednesday, Smart will have the last word, telling her executioner and the judge about the horrors they suffered and why anyone should have to face it again. But she said she knows that can also serve as an example and an inspiration to others. “I will be able to reach and help other children, other survivors to talk about what has happened to them and give them real hope and courage to take a position,” he said.

Smart was the picture of balance throughout the trial, holding her head up while telling a jury of the horrors Mitchell put through. But she said she has not decided what I will tell the court. “I’m not exactly sure what I’ll say yet,” he said. “So we’ll see when the time comes.”

In June 2002, Mitchell, Smart broke into the house in an affluent neighborhood of Salt Lake City and kidnapped the then 14 years old, from the bedroom she shared with her sister.

Over the next nine months, Mitchell, a self-proclaimed prophet and his accomplice, Wanda Barzee, held her captive. He said that he had become his wife and repeatedly sexually assaulted her.

In March 2003, two women in Sandy, Utah – miles from home Smart – called the police when they saw a man who they thought looked like Mitchell, whose face is known about the extensive coverage of the story of the girl.

The man was walking with a woman and a girl, all rolled up sleeping bags.

When police followed the trio down, they thought the girl looked smart, and took prisoners.

The case took years to finally go to trial because of doubts about Mitchell’s mental health.

When he finally began last year, the grueling five-week trial, during which Smart took the stand to describe in frank language what, happened during her captivity for nine months.

Smart During the three days spent on the bench, gave personal testimony terrible Mitchell painted as a cruel religious fanatic obsessed with sex.

Controlled voice speaking, her words tinged with anger, selfish and clever Mitchell called a “hypocrite” who raped her at every opportunity I had, even while proclaiming himself as a servant of God.

Smart told the jury that Mitchell spoke with her during her captivity what might happen if police found them.

“He knew he was going to jail. But I also said … and the other wives … come to testify in his favor,” said Smart. “And he said he would be released and would be killed and lie dead in the street for three days and then would rise and he would go to fight the anti-Christ.”

They also said they were forced to drink alcohol and smoke marijuana, what you dislike.

Smart says she was forced to “marry” Mitchell in a makeshift ceremony shortly after the kidnapping and often ask for sex, infuriating Barzee, who was jealous of the attention given Mitchell smart.

“This woman has spent the last eight years of her life being traumatized and work through the healing process,” said clinical psychologist Wendy Walsh. “It’s time to end it.”

She is now 23 years strong and vibrant young woman – strong evidence of the spirit that kept her alive.

She has just completed a Mormon mission trip in Paris, where he shared her story of survival, but since her return, he said he has not decided what her next step will be.

“I always feel like I can do the most good, then they will – that’s my main goal,” said Smart.
