Elisabeth Sladen Dead, Elisabeth Sladen, British actress, best known for her role in the TV cult series Doctor Who science fiction, died on Tuesday aged after a battle with cancer.

Liverpool-born Sladen first appeared on the BBC in 1973, playing the doctor’s assistant, Sarah Jane Smith.

Doctor Who is editor and executive producer Steven Moffat paid tribute.

“‘Do not meet your heroes, scholars say. They were not thinking about Lis Sladen,” said Moffat.

“Sarah Jane Smith was the hero of the world when I was younger, and as brave, funny and bright as ever are the only stories.

“It was just like any child she never wanted to be kind and gentle and intelligent. And a fiercely talented actress, but so modest that perfect English.” added.
