Eating And Riding The Subway Could Cost You A $250 Fine, A bill was referred to the Senate Transportation Committee earlier this month. It has the support of Senators Espaillat, Huntley and Oppenheimer which aims at stopping the consumption of food on any subway, station and platform under the control of New York City Transit.

Bill excerpt:

Over 15,000 surveys were distributed, in the mail, on-line and in-person at train stations. People’s passion for this issue was evident wherever we handed out surveys. Within days of our mailing, we received stacks of mail from constituents who had taken the time to fill out, stamp and mail back our surveys. The response was overwhelming.

This is to address the growing problem of rats, waste management is an issue with programs aimed at cutting down on trash by removing garbage cans from subway platforms and installed rodent-resistant bins, and uses rat poison in non-public areas.
