Easter Eggs Online, Before you hit the shops for Easter treats, read our guide to Easter eggs after we tried and tested chocolate eggs ranging between £1 and £28

Find out which Easter egg won our seal of approval
It’s a hard job, but someone’s got to do it.

We took to the high street to find the tastiest Easter eggs on offer this year – and we were surprised by some of the results.

We judged these Easter eggs out of five based on taste, presentation and value for money.

So before you splurge on Easter treats make sure you read our tried and tested guide to the tastiest on offer this Easter.

1. M&S dulce de leche flavoured chocolate egg with ganache filled mini eggs £12

This one looks too good to eat, but we tucked in anyway. It may look the bees knees but the taste was slightly disappointing. Not a bad size weighing in at 310g, but the chocolate was very thin and you’d have to be a big fan of dulce de leche to enjoy this.

Verdict: 2/5

2. Hotel Chocolat goose eggs, £13

Beautifully packaged, these brightly coloured hollow eggs really look the part. The four flavours – strawberry white, vanilla white and caramel – are suited to those with a real sweet tooth. 160g

Verdict: 3/5

3. John Lewis bunny, £4

This chocolate bunny a real little cutie and would be perfect for younger children. You get 75g of chocolate so the £4 price tag is probably a bit much for what you get but it makes for a nifty gift.

Verdict: 3/5

4. One Direction Milk Chocolate Egg, £1 from Poundland

This will obviously appeal to fans of the band – but it’s an absolute bargain at £1 and tastes good too. You get a 45g egg and 25g of jelly beans. It’s on the small side but overall t’s a nice little treat.

Verdict: 4/5

5. M&M’s peanut Easter egg and M&Ms single bag £1.57, Waitrose

The egg is a good size and you get a a bag of peanut M&Ms too. Does exactly what it says on the tin and the price is good. We bought this in Little Waitrose for £1.57, but on the website it is listed as costing just 75p. 145g

Verdict: 4/5

M&M’s peanut Easter egg and M&Ms single bag £1.57, Waitrose

6. Thorntons cookies and cream squegg £5.49

Knowing how to break open an egg is always a bit of dilemma, so we’re pleasantly surprised with the squegg. Thorntons’ squashed egg means you get one thick layer of chocolate instead of the problem of smashing the chocolate into smithereens. 154g

Verdict: 4/5

7. Hotel Chocolat crispy caramel egg sandwich, £8.50

This one gets extra points for the novelty value. If you’re into caramel chocolate, this is the one for you. It looks small but you do get your fair share of chocolate so you’ll certainly feel satisfied – although it is super sweet. 100g

Verdict: 4/5

8. Thorntons dark, milk and white mini masterpiece £9.99

This really looks the part and has something for everyone with all different types of chocolate. It’s beautifully packaged and while it’s on the pricey side, it’s still affordable. 270g

Verdict: 4/5

Thorntons dark, milk and white mini masterpiece £9.99

9. Organic Cocoa Loco Mr Moustache milk chocolate Easter egg, £12 from John Lewis

This will appeal to those who eat organic, and the pretty coloured packaging means it would make for a nice gift. It looks small but the milk chocolate is really thick and is filled with chocolate buttons. Would have had full marks if the price was a little cheaper. 225g

Verdict: 4.5/5

10. Waitrose Woodland Friends Hop, £5

This is great for children, and for £5, it’s a bargain. Good quality thick Belgian chocolate. And it’s super cute too, and even comes with a game on the box. 200g

Verdict: 5/5

11. Hotel Chocolat nest of egglets, £10

This 50% milk chocolate nest with crispy rice pieces was really tasty, although very rich. Dark chiocolate fans will enjoy it. Looks fun and is quirky for grown-ups but children probably won’t appreciate it as much. The eggs on top of the nest – a yellow egglet of runny caramel, a pink one of raspberry ganache, and a blue egglet filled with praline – were a lovely touch.

Verdict: 5/5

Hotel Chocolat nest of egglets, £13

12. Hotel Chocolat you crack me up extra thick egg, £28

Beautifully designed and looks really special. This certainly has the wow factor. It comes already split in two halves, so brute force unnecessary. This would make a lovely gift, although you’d have to like milk, dark and white chocolate. This is the grand gesture of Easter eggs – truly decadent.

Verdict: 5/5
