Dustin Hoffman Debut, The directorial debut, veteran actor Dustin Hoffman, “Quartet” begins shooting this week. Leading the cast are Maggie Smith (“Harry Potter”, “Downton Abbey”), Tom Courtenay (“The Dresser ‘,’ Doctor Zhivago ‘), Billy Connolly (” The Boondock Saints, “” Mrs. Brown “), Pauline Collins (“Shirley Valentine”), Sheridan Smith (“Legally Blonde – The Musical ‘) and Michael Gambon (” Harry Potter,’ Gosford ‘Park’).
The drama focuses on a British residents Beecham House, a home for retired opera singers. Every year on the birthday of Giuseppe Verdi, residents come together to give a concert to raise money for your home. However, when a former opera lady fallen on hard times at home moves to the surprise of all, plans for the concert this year will begin to crumble. As old grudges threaten to undermine past glories and theater temperaments play havoc with the schedule of tests, it is evident that four of the best singers in the English operatic history under one roof is no guarantee that the show will continue.
Author, playwright and screenwriter Ronald Harwood (“The Pianist,” “The Diving Bell and the” butterfly) adapted the screenplay based on his play of the same name.
