Duets ABC Reality

Duets ABC Reality, The network announced Thursday morning it would debut “Duets” this summer. You know how one of the best parts of “American Idol” is the finale, in which each of the Top-10 Idolettes sings a duet with their own personal idol singer? Well, ABC’s new show will do that every week, sorta.

“Duet” mentors Kelly Clarkson, Lionel Richie, Jennifer Nettles, and Robin Thicke will scour the country and each will pick two wannabe singers, who will take turns being the stars’ duet partner.

They will perform live every week, until one pair is named the winner, giving the rookie singer a record deal with the record label owned by ABC-parent Disney.

NBC left the summer open for a singing competition when it announced, a few weeks ago, it would air the third edition of “The Voice” in the fall; that show launched last spring/summer and second edition has been giving Fox’s “American Idol” a ratings run for its money in the first quarter.

ABC is no doubt counting on the marquee value of Clarkson to launch this thing — she being most famously the first season winner of “Idol” — the show that really started the craze in this country. She’s been a frequent chart topper ever since winning the first season of “Idol” — which, you’ll recall, also launched in the summer, way back in 2002.

Ironically, both Clarkson and Thicke were guest-mentors on this week’s episode of “The Voice.”
