Dubai Shopping FestivalDubai Shopping Festival, The DSF is set to begin on January 5 with its range of promotions, discounts and entertainment events. Farsana Salim, a tourist from India who came with her cousins Rameese Raja and Asif Khan, found herself rushing to the malls during their first two days in Dubai.

She said: “The shopping experience in Dubai is extraordinary. There are so many stores to choose from, and the famous brands have boutiques here. And we are lucky that we will still be here on the opening of Dubai Shopping Festival. We have heard great stories about it, and we are expecting a lot from it.’’

A visiting family from Egypt, Khaled El Kekhia with her daughters Laila, Shaima, Fareeda and Mariam, also expect a great time in their DSF shopping. According to Laila, the shops in Dubai are very helpful as it is easy to find things here. “Our family always comes here during the DSF and we are expecting the same enjoyable experiences.’’ The festival helps in getting tourists like Tomin Erinosho, Abi Erinosho and Tosin Ayanleye, who celebrated their holidays in Dubai. All agreed in saying that they had the best time in this emirate and shopping is one of their most enjoyable experiences.

Abi said, “The shopping here is an amazing experience.”

“We have noticed the advertisements about the DSF, and a lot of people told us about the further discounts in shops,” added Tomin.

On the other hand, Dubai-based residents shared their sentiments and expectations on the event.

“Every year, we send big boxes of goodies to our loved ones in the Philippines. That is why we take advantage of the good discounts during the DSF. It is really helpful and practical for us. We look forward to the raffle draws as well. Personally, I think that makes shopping more exciting, knowing that your purchase can lead you to win better things,” said RB Quizon, a Filipina retail employee who was roaming around Mall of the Emirates with her friend Apple Lucero.

Younger audiences, who are always on the look for affordable fashion, seemed to be really excited about the festival. Angela De Joode of Dutch and Filipino origin said: “I plan to update my wardrobe every DSF. There are so many great deals that I can’t help myself but do a lot of shopping.”

Her friend Acalea Watfa added: “I already have lots of clothes, shoes and bags, but whenever it’s DSF, I just have to shop. There is no better time to grab designer goods. The DSF is such a great friend for shopaholics like us.”

And, as it appeared, young women were not the only shopaholics in town. Peers Mohammed Reza, Nedal Mohammadi and Ahmed Mohammadi were having fun touring the mall and shopping for some good finds as well.

Nedal said: “We just came back from our trip in Lebanon and it felt like shopping in Dubai is really different. The malls here are more beautiful and the discounts are getting better.

We hope that when the DSF comes, the malls would be more alive with events to make it festive and better sales discounts to encourage people to buy more.”

Launched in 1996 on the directives of His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to position Dubai as a leading tourist destination, the Dubai Shopping Festival offers one of the best shopping experiences in the world and is the pioneering innovator of shopping destination tourism.

The DSF 2012 will once again bring together the best in shopping and events alongside amazing opportunities to win big.

With promotional offers and discounts of up to 75 per cent across 70 malls and 6,000 shops throughout the city, more than Dh100 million worth of raffles and prizes are up for grabs including luxury cars, gold and cash.
