Dog Treat RecallDog Treat Recall, Boss Pet Products, Inc. announced it is recalling its natural digging pig ear pet treat is because the products have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. Pet Head has been notified by one of its suppliers, key Manufacturing Company, Inc., a batch of pig’s ear Keys is tested positive for Salmonella. Key manufacturing has initiated a voluntary recall procedure in collaboration with the FDA and has identified several shipments of potentially affected product shipped Boss pets under their brand excavators in November 2010 to April 2011. So far, there has been a report of a dog in Missouri with Salmonella. Salmonella can affect animals that eat the product and no risk to people handling contaminated products, especially if they have washed their hands after contact with the product or surfaces exposed to these products.

Healthy persons infected with Salmonella should monitor for some or all of the following symptoms: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramps and fever. On rare occasions, Salmonella can result in more serious illnesses such as arterial infections, endocarditis, arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation, and urinary tract symptoms. Consumers experience these symptoms after having contact with this product should contact their health care providers.

Pets with Salmonella infections may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever and vomiting. Some pets will have only decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pain. But otherwise infected pets can be healthy carriers and infect other animals or humans. If your pet has consumed the recalled product and has these symptoms, consult your veterinarian.

The recall is the result of disease reported a dog in Missouri. Subsequently, the Chief of pets has been working with the FDA to identify products that may contain the bacteria, while the product manufacturer and the FDA are continuing research to determine what caused the problem.
