Diane Cilento DiesDiane Cilento Dies, Fans of pop culture I remember her as the wife of Sean Connery, but the Australian actor Diane Cilento, who died this week, was much, much more than that.

Cilento, who was married to Connery, her second husband, from 1962 to 73, had a career that spanned six decades and included being nominated for an Oscar for her role in the 1963 film Tom Jones.

She appeared on the screen with legendary actors like Paul Newman, Albert Finney and Connery. In 1973 he met the playwright Anthony Shaffer on the set of the movie he had written, The Wicker Man, and they married in 1985. She was widowed in 2001.

“They want to know what is to be the mistress of James Bond, but I have had a much more complicated and interesting than that,” said Cilento, when promoting her autobiography, My Nine Lives in 2006.

Mooloolaba-born star, who turned 78 the day before her death on Thursday in Cairns, Mossman had relied on since the 1980s, where he established and directed the theater of Karnak.

She was a passionate young artists advisory and Queensland University of Technology Artist in Residence with Underbelly star Gyton Grantley last year.

Brisbane player Anna McGahan, then a student at QUT and is now the lead in Underbelly: Razor, Cilento said was an inspiration and invaluable as a mentor.

Early last year he returned to Brisbane Cilento for the celebrations of 25th anniversary of the Queensland Performing Arts Complex, where he had attended three legends of Kra in the context of the opening celebrations QPAC in 1985.

QPAC CEO John Kotz said Cilento was a committed and visionary of the arts. “It’s an amazing story.

Born in Queensland, the child of two doctors, which reached heights in their own fields, he went to study acting at RADA (Royal Academy of Dramatic Art), won a Tony Award and became a movie star, “said Kotz .

Anna Bligh Queensland, Cilento said Prime Minister had made a valuable contribution to the performing arts throughout the state.  Cilento is survived by her daughter, Giovanna Volpe, and her son, Jason Connery.
