Derek Boogaards Brother Linked To Overdose, The brother of former NHL player Derek Boogard Aeros and has been responsible for providing pills that led to the overdose death Boogard in May. Aaron Boogaard, 24, has been accused of illegally distributing a controlled substance, a felony. He was also accused of interfering in the death scene after he allegedly tried to cover up evidence.
According to court documents filed Friday in Minneapolis, Aaron Boogaard gave his brother a narcotic pain pill the day before Derek Boogaard was found dead in his apartment in Minneapolis.
A lawyer for Aaron Boogard says his client remains devastated by the death. Attorney John Lundquist released a statement Friday. Boogaard said has been released by both Hennepin County and U.S. authorities immigration and is with his family.
Officials had previously said Derek Boogard died of a mixture of prescription pill and alcohol.
Derek Boogaard played for the Astros from 2003 to 2005 before being promoted to the Minnesota Wild. He spent five years in the wild and just finished his first season with the Rangers in New York.
Aaron played for the Aeros Boogard training camp in 2010, but decreased with time.
