Schalk told the council he wants investigators to have law enforcement training and be able to work with police in the area. He said he has aligned Todd Stinson, a State of Indiana soldier who worked in Floyd County, and Ross Rafferty, an experienced police officer and former employee of Aztar casino surveillance, to fill the positions.
Seelye said Tuesday that he intended to offer the position to part-time investigator for Dean Ashcraft, a retired veteran of 28 years Louisville Metro Police who worked 12 years as a homicide detective.
Both requests were approved unanimously.
After the meeting, new GOP Chairman Gary Davis, a former accountant, said he supported the request because he is eager to help people clean up the problems that arose during the tenure of the Former Sheriff Mike Deatrick, who faces 10 charges of sexual misconduct investigation into alleged.
Sheriff Rodney Seelye, for example, asked the Council to let him hire a part-time instead of filling the position prison matron. He said he intends to use part of this wage increase to pay his first deputy, Wayne Kessinger.
