Dehavilland Dhc 3 Otter

Dehavilland Dhc 3 Otter, Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, says former Sen. Ted Stevens, who was aboard a plane that crashed in the southwestern region of the state, is a warrior “and” hero of Alaska. ”

“A veteran of World War II, who has devoted his life to his country, is one of our heroes here,” Palin told Fox News.

But Palin said the former senator from Alaska is not only seen as a hero, “Alaska” for their service in war and in the Senate. He is loved by “the energy and passion for life and for those things he has been involved in efforts to responsible resource development, and just love all that Alaska has to offer,” he said.

Stevens was one of the nine people aboard a DeHavilland DHC-3 Otter that crashed outside of Dillingham in northern Bristol Bay about 325 miles southwest of Anchorage on Monday night.

Five people died in the crash, but there were conflicting reports about whether Stevens was among the dead.

Palin said the region where the plane crashed is a very popular place to fly, but not the safest.

“The area is very busy with seaplanes and bush pilots in and out because this is the richest salmon ground stained world, the world’s richest salmon fishing low, very, very busy for flights in and out, “Palin told Fox News.

The number of aircraft in the area between Alaska’s remote mountains and lakes can be a hindrance at times, Palin said, like the weather.

“Undoubtedly, the weather is lousy, cloudy, probably 40 degrees or less,” he said. “A lot of rain and fog in the area is very typical.”

The airline says it is also typical, especially in the DeHavilland DHC-3 Otter aircraft that the group was in.

“We have three million lakes in Alaska and one of the main means of transport are these small aircraft,” he said. “An otter is so typical, especially if you have 8 or more people – in a leap of Otter.

But as the area can be a dangerous place for passenger planes can also represent a hazard for aircraft rescue.

“Rescue efforts are extremely difficult, very, very difficult,” said Palin. “Expect the best and pray for these rescue workers who do not reach such adverse conditions that they, too, become part of the problem. And that’s very typical in Alaska, too.”

Stevens was one of the two survivors in a plane crash in 1978 at Anchorage International Airport that killed his wife, Ann, and several others. He remarried several years after the accident – he and his second wife, Catherine, have one daughter, Lily.

“Pray for the victims, pray that you pray for survivors and rescue teams making a heroic effort,” said Palin.
