Degrassi The Boiling Point

Degrassi The Boiling PointDegrassi The Boiling Point:Because young people Nick only seems to air commercials for Proactiv, Con-nec-tion Education, and its own indoctrination, I’ve seen the promos for Degrassi: The Boiling many times than I care to admit. In my defense, they have been playing every Degrassi episode ever in grounding for the new season. That means violation of Paige, Manny’s abortion, eating disorder Emma, the shooting, the drug problem Craig, etc. How could I not watch?

Of course relive those old episodes I miss Paige, Marco, Jimmy, and Craig, but to be fair in younger children Degrassi Community School know how to cook a good scandal, too: last season we had the use of glass methamphetamine, vampires, fantasies, the morning after pill and HPV fright. So even though I’m missing the original, I’m still counting the hours until the new episodes of my favorite guilty pleasure is not so secret, thanks to a deliciously dramatic trailer: A mysterious new student! Little Claire fashion short hair (and maybe a new love?)! Riley gets comfortable with PDA! Fiona slapped! The school goes into lock security! Oh, Canada.

It all starts tonight with the premiere of two hours, Degrassi Takes Manhattan: the heat is on in our favorite Canadian land in our beautiful city for a summer to remember. (For the exclusive clip of EW with a cameo from Jay Manuel ANTM.) And now that I’ve seen a more detailed promo for tonight’s episode, there is a whole new reason to tune in. Check it out below:

For those of you who are not regular viewers, the last two people kissing are brother and sister. Yes, that would mean that tonight we have a large portion of incest (Degrassi: We go there). Declan and Fiona have always seemed creepy close, so I’m happy that the show is to explore what the viewers have been thinking for some time. But this episode still gets a label due to huge ick factor. Is this the most powerful argument yet Degrassi?

Will you be watching tonight Degrassi, PopWatchers? Or are you longing for the days of Liberty and JT, Emma and Sean, and Manny and Craig (… and Ashley)?
