Debra Messing Divorce, After 11 years of marriage, Actress Debra Messing has split from her husband, actor and producer, Daniel Zelman. According to reports, the couple have been separated for the better part of a year but remain living together.
The former couple met at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts in 1990 and were married in 2000. In April 2004, Messing gave birth to their son Roman Walker Zelman.
According to Us Weekly, the split was amicable and the couple separated earlier this year, though they remain living together for the sake of their son.
A statement from Messing’s rep says that the break was mutual and “they remain supportive of one another and committed to raising their son as a family.”
Us weekly confirms through a source that the separation started earlier this year but that the couple remain living together in New York for their son, adding that the split was “very amicable.”
BANG Showbiz quotes Messing as saying that the reason the relationship thrived was because they met when they were young and grew together within the struggles of making it in the industry.
“I think we’re lucky we met really young when we were both students and hopeful about the future and excited by the romance of the struggle then,” Messing said.
She added, “I think we just have a real respect for each other as individuals, and I think we’re lucky as we grew up together we grew closer instead of further away. Our goals and priorities and perspectives became more in line with each other than when we first met.”
Messing, and family, are currently in New York City while she films the new NBC musical drama, Smash, slated to air in February 2012.
