Dd Sports Live, New Delhi, October 03 (IANS) The opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games (CWG), broadcast live on Doordarshan (DD) Sunday night, was expected to be seen by about 60 percent of households TV estimated 130 million dollars in the country, a source said.

“We are expecting about 60 percent of eyeballs total TV households in the country,” said Aruna Sharma, Doordarshan Director General, told IANS.

She said the countries participating in the Games had also made arrangements for the air opening and closing ceremonies and events of interest.

Sharma said his team had worked hard to make arrangements for the transmission of the opening and closing ceremonies and sporting events.

“We are in full readiness. With the best wishes of all Indians, everything should be fine,” he said.

For the first time in its history, the Commonwealth Games (CWG) was produced in high definition (HDTV) – a format that offers an amazingly realistic picture quality and theater-like sound quality.

The International Broadcasting Center (IBC), located in Pragati Maidan, will serve as the hub of broadcasting activities.

Doordarshan will broadcast the Games, in both high definition and standard definition.

DD National, DD Bharti Urdu and DD, DD News and regional channels also broadcast events related to the Games. Doordarshan will also produce 30-minute daily highlights, focusing on the performance of athletes from India.

Sunday’s showpiece was covered by more than 350 cameras. Helicopters are also to be used in the ceremonies of Jawaharlal Nehru, the stadium and road testing, while some underwater cameras have been installed for aquatic events.

The interviews of athletes, cultural events and side stories of the Games will be covered by 25 mobile camera units.

Cameras have also been installed on benchmarks such as Qutub Minar, Connaught Place, Red Fort and India Gate to add visual content for the telecast. DD has partnered with a British company, SIS live, for the production and coverage of the Games.

Besides being the technical center of Doordarshan, the IBC will provide facilities such as linear editing suites and nonlinear. We also have space for the placement of satellite dishes.

About Rs.366 crore ($ 81 million) was spent on production, coverage and transmission of the Games. Doordarshan will share the revenue earned during the Games organizing committee.

The broadcaster will have 30 percent of income earned by the committee through the international television rights.

The IBC also will have an office all day to collect and distribute all information related media.
