Dayne Crist, Notre Dame quarterback Dayne Crist, who sat out most of the first half after leading an offensive opening scoring drive, he returned in the third quarter Saturday and immediately threw a touchdown pass.
Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly told a TV interviewer in the middle that Crist has a stroke during the first set and it was not clear enough to return to the game.
But Crist returned in the second half and his second TJ Jones hit a 53-yard touchdown pass to cut the lead to 21-14 Michigan.
In the first half, Crist was replaced by freshman Tommy Rees, who quickly threw an interception that led to a touchdown that tied the game for the Wolverines. After playing two series Rees, Nate Montana took over and plays the rest of the half. He also threw an interception and then overthrew the end zone on the final play of the half after Ireland had reached 3 Michigan.
Crist completed 5 of 7 passes on the first drive of 71 yards, had three carries for 30 yards and then slipped into the Irish TD.
