Davy Jones Dead, The celebrity-watcher website TMZ is reporting that Davy Jones, former singer for the Monkees, has died in Florida. The singer was 66, and is survived by his wife, Jessica, and four daughters. He died in Florida, TMZ said.

Jones had also lived recently in the Philadelphia area and was a Daily News Sexy Single several years ago.

The website said an official from the medical examiner’s office for Martin County, Florida confirmed the Martin Memorial Hospital had informed them Jones had died.

The Monkees, in reality a rock band formed for a TV show, had a string of hits in the 1960s.

Jones had a farm in Beavertown, in central Pennsylvania, where he raised horses. He was once waiting for a flight at Philadelphia International Airport, when he spied a Daily News ad looking for nominees for the annual Sexy Singles contest.

On a whim, Jones decided to enter. But somewhere between his picture appearing in the paper and the party we have each year to celebrate the winners, Jones proposed to the former Jessica Pacheco, 31, a flamenco dancer and actress.

As for the experience of being a Daily News Sexy Single, Jones said “It was a bit of fun. I’m still glad about that.”
