David Wu, Oregon Rep. David Wu revealed Sunday, July 24 that he would not resign. He further stated that it will end its mandate in 2012 and then will not run in the upcoming elections. David Wu’s decision is in response to the campaign of Democratic legislative leaders to resign his post.
Reports have circulated that David Wu was accused of a sexual encounter unwanted aggressive with a woman in November last year. Following the controversy, David Wu has not been seen in public and refused to issue a formal response to the allegations. Democratic leaders rejected David Wu’s decision. They have been urging legislators to resign because the controversy that could adversely affect the party’s chances in the upcoming 2012 elections.
Nancy Pelosi, the House minority leader, calls for an ethics investigation into allegations that the representative had a sexual encounter Wu aggressive with the daughter of his old friend. In a statement, Pelosi said: “I appeal to the Ethics Commission for an investigation into allegations against Congressman Wu. With deep regret and sadness over this situation, I hope the Ethics Committee will address this issue.”
David Wu has appeared in a negative light for months due to erratic behavior that resulted in the resignation of most of his senior staff. Even revealed that he was advised to undergo treatment and counseling. “The Oregonian” first reported the sexual charges against the legislator.
