A commenter on a networking site often used by extremists to suggest Al Qaeda target because apparently Letterman was not happy about the joke made by comedian on June 8th episode of its program on the death of Ilyas Kashmiri, one of Osama bin Laden lieutenants and a leader of al-Qaida.
The message sent by the name “Omar al-Basrawi,” encouraged “to Muslims in the U.S. right” to “cut the tongue of this humble Jew and closed forever.”
Al-Basrawai Letterman said “showed their evil nature and a deep hatred for Islam and Muslims.” He added: “We ask Allah to paralyze the tongue and give sincere monotheists his neck.” Stars and Stripes were the first to report the news.
Charles Strozier, director of the Center on Terrorism, told AM New York that the threat “could be a total fraud and is likely to be, but in this world of mass communication, something that seems frivolous, if collected can intensify by the wrong people. ” Both the NYPD and the FBI are investigating the alleged threats against the cartoonist.
