Yesterday got a personal triumph for eclipse, but the first thought of his family. “It’s for children,” said Clarke. “They were playing at Royal Portrush this morning and they would see golf in the afternoon. I’m sure it will be very happy.
“In terms of what’s going through my heart, obviously someone is watching from up there, and I know I would be very proud of me.
“She’d probably be saying, ‘I told you so’. But I think she’d be more proud of my two children and watching them at home more than anything else.’s been a long journey to get here. I have 42 and I’m going younger. But you know, I have here at the end. ”
Victoria Clarke is remarkable, given its decline in recent seasons, but he insists he never gave up hope that one day win a major.

“You know, the bad times in golf are more frequent than the good times,” said Clarke afterwards.
“I’ve always been very hard on myself when not because it is very easy to accept. And there are times I’ve been completely and utterly sick of the games. But friends and family and Chubby [Chandler, his manager] said, leaving and practice and keep going, keep going, keep going, and why I’m sitting here now. ”
Clarke family put their success to family life more stable, secure after moving back to Portrush in Ulster, where his children settled in school and taking care of her sister, Andrea, at the family home when he not playing.
He is also settled in his personal life he committed himself to the former Miss Northern Ireland, Alison Campbell, whom he met on a blind date set up by Graeme McDowell, in December.
His father, Godfrey, said: “Children are resolved, Darren is resolved. Alison is a big girl and the two are very happy together.
“For children to be happy and be happy as I think he’s calmed down a bit. It used to be the case that there was steam coming out your ears, but not so often this last time.”
Victoria Clarke was so popular with his colleagues and with the galleries who said he recognized him as “a regular guy who likes a beer, play golf and have some fun.”
Tiger Woods was among the first to congratulate him on Twitter, and Clarke revealed that former world number one had sent him a text message on Saturday night. “He was giving me a couple of small tips, which was great.”
Rory McIlroy also contacted on Saturday night, returning the favor that Clarke called with messages of support before his final round at U.S. Open in Congress.
More poignantly, Phil Mickelson was there to greet outboard recorder, leaving aside his personal disappointment to congratulate a close friend with whom he shares the experience of caring for loved ones with breast cancer. Mickelson’s wife, Amy, and his mother Mary are both recovering from the disease.
“I’m very happy for Darren,” said Mickelson. “It was one of the first people to call us, Amy and I, a couple of years. He has been through this and could not have been a better person to talk to.”
Mickelson added: “He’s been through everything and so I was very grateful for his time. He is a tremendous person and a very good friend, and I could not be happier for him.”
