Dangers Of Drinking Too Much Diet Soda, Maybe you’ll think twice before having that next glass of diet soda, as a new study reports that drinking too much of it is linked to a greater risk of a heart attack.
Just don’t panic yet: the danger increases for those who drink this kind of beverage in a daily basis. Why is that?
Some of you might be thinking of blaming the excessive amount of caffeine. Well, it isn’t: The study links the daily consumption of these soft drinks to other unhealthy habits, leading to higher levels of blood pressure and hight cholesterol.
It is not surprising; just think about it: people who love diet soda tend to think that this allows them in some way to eat fatty foods, as they are supposed to be “saving calories” drinking those light beverages.
The study was led by The Journal of General Internal Medicine, and involved over 2,500 participants which were followed for ten years. After tracking their everyday habits, almost 600 of them suffered some sort of heart attack or vascular-related condition.
Overall, drinking diet soda in a daily basis was linked to a 44 percent higher risk of a heart attack, compared to 22 percent for those who rarely drink these beverages.
