Dan Gilbert: (ESPN) — As someone who spent a good chunk of time in the Daily Dime live and Twitter from LeBron James’s decision became public, I can say that James has been the target of a lot of vitriol.
Dan Gilbert to the rescue.
With one stroke, the owner of the Cavaliers Pumpkin ‘has made James the most extraordinary public relations in favor imaginable, to start the villain of the night right out trophy from James.
I do not know the details of Gilbert and James story behind the cameras, and am able to say that James is perfect. But I do know that the owners open letter to Cavaliers fans blatantly lacks class, and gain much more by the support for James Gilbert.
You know that TV show with Cesar Millan, the dog trainer? I heard him say once that humans are the only animal that will follow an unstable leader. He says when it comes to human beings, the training how to act as leaders to their dogs. Basically, he is saying to take a deep breath, cool down, to act with balance if you expect the dogs to respect you.
I think the same is true of most people. You want your leader to have meaning, and offer comfort and inspiration. Nothing more is called for here. Gilbert could have been silent. Could I have wished James well. He could have said it’s a broken heart. Instead, he went on the attack, talked some trash, you name James said.
This is a terrible night for the fans of Cleveland. Not only lose their best player in the NBA, but they are also trying to rebuild with a green GM and an owner who only reported that if push comes to shove, will bail the public, and deeply, in his players, no matter how well they have done.
