“She is a blessing, a blessing in my life,” King told the website. “I do not know what would have done without her in my life … I can not wait to make her my wife.”
Nineteen years ago, police chased King in his car through the San Fernando Valley before being captured on video brutally beaten by four white police officers.
His acquittal of assault in a criminal trial in 1992 sparked the notorious race riots that lasted four days, leaving 55 dead and over 2,000 wounded.
At the time of the civil trial that followed, both Ms. Kelley and King both married but later divorced.
“Our first date was the next day after the trial when the lawyer for Rodney and Rodney met me at a local pizzeria in Newport Beach,” Ms. Kelley said.
The couple separated during the stay of King on Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew and do not meet until four months ago, when King phoned to ask if your old love was still single.
“We had not spoken for many years, and it turns out we reconnected. It was as if they are never separated from each other, Ms. Kelley said.
