Ct Unemployment, Congressman Jim Himes (CT-4) issued the following statement in support of the compromise reached by President Obama and congressional leaders this week in taxes and unemployment insurance.
“Given the absolute Republican intransigence and the need to further promote economic recovery, I am glad that the president and congressional leaders have found common ground on current tax rates and the critical issues of unemployment insurance for all of us. The agreement to extend unemployment insurance and to provide holiday temporary payroll tax to stimulate economic growth. It will assist those most in need in these times of economic hardship and help keep warm toward economic recovery forward. I’m disappointed with the treatment of proposed property tax and that this agreement must be accompanied by a plan for fiscal sustainability, but I am encouraged by the progress we are making. ”
