Crystal Ball Pictures

Suggestive photos, taken by Ball and her former husband in a costume party about six years ago, hit the web on Wednesday. Were written by Republican bloggers and the spread immediately.
In a message on his Facebook page, Ball condemned the act as “a sexist smear campaign.”
“I am woman, mother, an accountant and small business owner,” he said. “When I went to apply for this position, I knew that our policy had deteriorated with a vengeance. Like most Americans, I want to serve my country and help make a better future for children and families around the first district Virginia and the United States. We have been asking my opponent to debate for months and has been avoided. Yesterday, we started our first radio ads calling out my opponent for not debating the issues. His campaign called our local radio stations tried to determine the size of our ad buy. A few hours later, he began this campaign of vilification against me, posted by a blogger with close ties to the campaign of my opponent and the local Republican Party. Hours after the damage was made and these private photos leaked to the world, my opponent issued a statement denying they had anything to do with it.
“These pictures are of me and my ex husband at a costume party to party. There are about six years, when I was about 22. Of course I am embarrassed by these photos, which was the central point of these political operators when put up. But more than shame, I’m angry!. I am angry because when we are suffering from unemployment, record budget deficit and a broken educational system, to crass political operatives resort to the politics of personal destruction when you can not talk about the issues . This is not a way to carry out a political campaign and the people of the first district of Virginia and the U.S. are disgusted by such tactics. It is sexist and wrong, regardless of political party. And I have a message for any young woman who is thinking about running for office and has gone to a costume party with your spouse or done something stupid on camera. Running for office. Fighting for this country. Do not let this kind of tactic prevented. The good people, people of conscience will come to your aid and you must rely on the basic fairness of the American people. Running for office. We need you. ”
Ball is a Democratic candidate for U.S. Congress in the First District of Virginia.
