Crown Princess Victoria Pregnant, Crown of Sweden, Crown Princess Victoria is pregnant and due to give birth in March 2012, the court said Wednesday, ending years of speculation about when would be a new heir to the throne.
“The Crown Princess is expecting and the baby should come in March,” said spokeswoman Annika real Soennerberg AFP. “All the royal family are delighted and the crown princess is doing well,” he said.
Swedish tabloids immediately jumped into frenzy by the news, which had been widely anticipated since the fairytale wedding of Victoria to her former personal trainer Daniel Westling, now known as the Prince Daniel, June 19, 2010.
“I have much to expect this fall,” said Victoria, 34, the newspaper Aftonbladet, shortly after the news.
Victoria, which is the first in line of succession and one day become the third queen regent of Sweden, is popular in Sweden.
Several recent studies have shown that most Swedes would prefer her father King Carl XVI Gustaf, who during the past year has been involved in various scandals, as head of state.
When he arrives, the new baby – the king and the first grandchild of the Queen – is the second in line to the Swedish throne.
On its website, the court said there was no sign yet that the princess would have to alter its official agenda due to her pregnancy.
“It is with great joy the news that Crown Princess and Prince Daniel are expecting a child. You have a fantastic experience before looking ahead and want to send my two warmest congratulations,” Swedish Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt said in a statement.
