Code Name ‘Geronimo’, EKIA Geronimo. “That’s the key phrase that allow U.S. officials know Osama Bin Laden was killed Sunday in a compound in Abbotabad, Pakistan.

The code name “Geronimo” was assigned to Bin Laden for his elusiveness. (Chief Geronimo, like bin Laden eluded capture for years.)

But some are taking offense under the code name, saying it does a great injustice to the Chief Geronimo and the Apache tribe.

“I think it’s a slap in the face that the codename for the pigs to Geronimo,” one of the many readers of CNN when he wrote the code name was revealed. “Jerome was a warrior who fought to save his people from the invasion of whites. To use your name in this capacity is very disrespectful.”
