Civil Engineering, Civil engineering is a professional engineering discipline that deals with the design, construction and maintenance of the physical environment and naturally integrated, including works such as bridges, roads, canals, dams, and buildings. Civil engineering is the oldest engineering discipline after military engineering, and has been defined to distinguish from non-military engineering military engineering.

It is traditionally divided into several sub-disciplines including environmental engineering, geotechnical engineering, structural engineering, transportation engineering, municipal engineering and urban water resources engineering, materials engineering, coastal engineering, the surveying and construction engineering. Civil engineering takes place at all levels: in the public sector from municipal to federal level and in the private sector by individual owners to international corporations [.
Engineering was one aspect of life since the beginnings of human existence. The first practice of civil engineering may have started between 4000 and 2000 BC in ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia (ancient Iraq) when humans started to abandon a nomadic lifestyle, resulting in a need for the construction of shelters. Meanwhile transport became increasingly important leading to elaboration wheel and sailing.

Until modern times there was no clear distinction between civil engineering and architecture, and the term engineer and architect were mainly geographical variations referring to the same person, often used interchangeably. Pyramids construction Egyptian (towards 2700-2500 BC) could considered early examples constructions great structure. Other ancient historic civil engineering constructions include the Parthenon by Ictinos in ancient Greece (447-438 BC), the Appian Way by Roman engineers (c. 312 BC), the Great Wall of China by General Meng Tian on the orders of Ch ‘in Emperor Shih Huang Ti (c. 220 BC) and stupas built in ancient Sri Lanka as Jetavanaramaya and irrigation works extensively in Anuradhapura. The Romans developed civil structures throughout their empire, including, aqueducts, insulae, ports, bridges, dams and roads.
